Inside the world of fashion designers + architects.
We had two wonderful story times here at Little in the month of June. We will be taking a break from story time during July + August to make more space for summer fun + will resume sometime in September. It's been such a fun year of reading to all of our little friends. I wanted to finish off the season with two story + craft themes that I had been so excited to share.
Here at Little, we try our best every day to care for the earth. We carry eco-friendly brands like Mini Rodini + Naturepedic whenever possible. We use green cleaning products, repurpose supplies during our story times +, of course, we recycle! We want to encourage earth consciousness in our little customers as well, so it was obvious that we needed to host an Earth Day story time!
When I planned a kite themed story time for mid-March, I was hoping for a little sun, snow melting into puddles + fleece jacket weather. When I realized that Portland would be covered in a fresh blanket of snow during this particular Saturday, I decided to stick with the theme anyway, because I'm more than ready for spring + some outdoor play. This story + craft time really got me in the spirit, + I hope it got our little friends ready for warmer weather as well!
Here at Little, we're having a real love affair with unicorns. We're smitten with Mini Rodini's new unicorn prints + we're stocked up with unicorn stickers, cupcake kits, cookie cutters, necklaces, party supplies as well as felt unicorn horns + tails from our local friends at Tree + Vine. It seemed only a matter of time before we celebrated our favorite creatures with their very own story + craft time
Books that span the seasons + bring beauty to even a dark time of year.
This week's story time was a good lesson in 'playing it by ear.' I'll hit you with the original concept - I planned to read some books about the seasons + then read The Story Orchestra which is a gorgeous, musical book by Jessica Courtney-Tickle that plays Vivaldi's The Four Seasons when you press on each page. This was then going to lead into a musical craft time.
